North West Department of Human Settlements handed over five (5) houses in Glaudina in the Mamusa Local Municipality as part of unblocking blocked projects in the province during the Thuntsha Lerole programme held in Migdol recently. The Glaudina community is constituted by number of families that lived in local farms for many decades after being forcefully relocated or evicted from the neighbouring farms.
The five houses that were handed over to beneficiaries is part of the blocked projects across the province. The 68 housing project is anticipated to be completed before the end of this financial year. Handing over the houses Premier Lazarus Mokgosi said the department has prioritized unblocking blocked projects and issuing of title deeds in the North West Province, to ensure that the communities have decent houses. “Restoring the dignity of our people often begins with a home as it is one of our basic human right. And that will allow families to live in comfort and security,” said Premier Mokgosi.
Sarah Kgagodi is one of the beneficiaries. The 72 year old granny of five said that she is over the moon because government has finally given her a home. “This house is an investment to my children’s future and that of my grandchildren,” said Kgagodi, who hails from Burtie Farms near Glaudina. Kgagodi has been living in a shack with her husband for over 20 years. Her family survives on Social Grants.
Another beneficiary, Annah Bok also comes from neighbouring farm. She comes from Morokweng and settled in neighbouring farms. She also came to Glaudina after they were forcefully relocated by the previous government. The 72 year old lives with her three grandchildren and also survives on social grants. Both Bok and Kgagodi expressed their gratitude towards government’s gesture.
In further restoring the dignity of those who have already received houses from government and ensuring ownership, the department handed over eleven (11) of forty two 42 title deeds symbolically during the feedback session held later that day at Migdol. The remaining 31 title deeds will be handed over by the municipality.
The eighty four years old (84) Tshwene Mongale, and his seventy five years (75) old wife, Mmuenyane Mongale, were among the 11 recipients. Tshwene Mongale said they are happy that they are going to leave a legacy for their children and grandchildren. Premier Mokgosi said handing over of title deeds confirms that one is the rightful owner of the house and also urged the beneficiaries to keep the document safe at all times.
