North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi has welcomed the progress made on a 250 housing projects
in Geysdorp in the Tswaing local municipality. Premier Mokgosi expressed his gratitude towards the
projects when handing over one of the houses to a family of Rethabile Mafulako, who is living with
disability. The project is one of several blocked projects across the province.
The house was officially handed over to Ms Mary Mafulako aged 59 years on behalf of her twentytwo year old disabled daughter, Rethabile. Receiving keys to the house, the visibly elated Mafulako,
praised and expressed her gratitude towards government and the contractor who donated the house
after discovering the plight if of the family.
The family survives on the Disability and Child Support Grants that her children receive. “I am glad
for the house because we have been living in a shack for a long time and it was not conducive for
my disabled child. I would like to thank the department for the good gesture,” said Mafulako a widow
with four children who originates from Glaudina.
Another recipient was the 66 years old Gopolang Chachu who said she comes from Boesmanspit
Farms near Vryburg and they have been living in Geysdorp for over twenty years. “I am grateful for
receiving a house, the department has given my family the dignity we deserve, and this is also a
legacy to my children,” said Chachu.
Speaking during the handover, Premier Mokgosi said the symbolic handover ensures the
department’s dedication and commitment that all members of the community must have a safe and
suitable housing regardless of their circumstances. Premier Mokgosi further pointed out that the
department prioritises People Living with Disabilities, Older Persons, Child Headed families and
Women.
The housing project was resuscitated in 2023 and it was one of the blocked project. Currently the
progress on the project is at 80% and is anticipated to be completed by the end of December this
year.
The department also continued its Title deed Friday campaign in the same area. This time 1 390
title deeds were handed over to the Delareyville community including Letsopa and Agisanang
townships. Nine of the title deeds were symbolically handed over to beneficiaries by Premier
Mokgosi.
Petrus Sout, who was one of the beneficiaries, thanked the department for receiving his title deed.
The 72 years old widower said he hails from Rietpan Farms and he lives with his child and
grandchildren.” Today is one of the best days in my life that I will cherish forever. I waited for this
title deed for a long time. I am overexcited,” said Sout.
Premier Mokgosi urged the beneficiaries to safeguard their title deeds as it is the only document
that guarantees that they are the owners. The handover was done by the Premier of North West,
Lazarus Mokgosi, accompanied by Mayor of Tswaing Local Municipality, Norah Mahlangu, and
other members of the executive council.
