Human Settlements hands over new houses to Moses Kotane residents

In a concerted effort to ensure the provision of quality housing, the Department of Human
Settlements recently handed over two (2) newly built houses and thirty seven (37) title deeds to
Moses Kotane Local Municipality residents as part of the on-going Provincial Government’s
Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, Thuntsha Lerole.
The handover was led by the MEC responsible for Finance, Motlalepula Rosho who was standing
in for North West Acting Premier and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and
Traditional Affairs, Patrick Dumile Nono Maloyi. According to Rosho the provincial government,
particularly the Department of Human Settlements is not only tasked with building houses, but rather
to provide communities with adequate housing that meets their social amenities.
Speaking during the handover, MEC Rosho said the handover of these houses is an important step
in government’s commitment to providing decent and affordable housing to our people. “Today’s
handover symbolises the restoration of dignity to our families and manifests the notion of a caring
government on a mission to build a caring and cohesive society”.
MEC Rosho further reiterated that government will continue to intensify the provision of sustainable
human settlements by identifying the most vulnerable in our society and prioritise them as the
gesture restores their dignity and improves their quality of life.
“As the government, we remain committed to accelerating human settlement delivery, while
promoting social inclusion through the development of integrated, resilient, safe and sustainable
human settlements in an open opportunity society,” added Rosho.
MEC Rosho also handed over thirteen (13) of the thirty seven (37) title deeds at the feedback
session to beneficiaries and the remaining twenty-four (24) will be issued through the Moses Kotane
Local Municipality.

MEC Rosho urged the beneficiaries to look after their new homes and never sell or rent them out
as it serves as their legacy and inheritance for their children.
Meanwhile, accepting keys to their newly built houses, both Ipeleng Tlholoe (63) and Bertha Pholo
(58) said they are very happy to be moving into their new homes. They said their living conditions
will be improved as they now have decent houses they can call homes where they will live with
dignity.
The department of Human Settlements remain committed to build quality and habitable homes, to
ensure that the vision of building a sustainable Human settlements becomes a reality.
