THE ELDERLY RECEIVE HOUSES AND TITLE DEEDS

A promise by the department of Human Settlements, as announced by the Acting
Premier and also the MEC for the Department of Human Settlements in the North West
Nono Maloyi to unblock housing projects across the province is unfolding. The
commitment was made during the first and the second phase of Thuntsha Lerole,
accelerated service delivery program in the second quarter of the 2023/24 financial
year.
The community of Ventersdorp is one of many that continues to receive houses on
daily basis as contractors are on the ground completing projects that were blocked
due to challenges experienced during the Covid-19 era. The Ventersdorp housing
project consists of 360 Units which started in 2019 at Toevlug and the project could
not finish because of the wet land and other constructions challenges.
Abel Jonkers a 90 year old grandfather of two, who is one of the four (4) beneficiaries
could not contain his emotions when he was handed over the keys to his house and
said he is now happy that his dream of having a house of his own has come true.
Jonkers said that that he comes from Rietfontein Farms and he stays with his two
unemployed grandchildren and one great grandchild. The family survive on social
grants money. “I am happy that I have a decent home where I am going to live happily
with my children. I would like to thank the Department for their good gesture,” said
Jonkers.
Another beneficiary was Mmamokete Molusi aged 71 who comes from Kliplaasdrift
Farm. She stays with her two grandchildren and one grandchild, they depend on social
grants. Molusi said she is grateful that the department gave her the house of which
she has been waiting for.
Meanwhile, MEC Maloyi also handed over eight (8) Title Deeds to the community of
Ikageng Township in Potchefstroom. The remaining 801 will be collected by residents
at municipality offices. The North West Department of Human Settlements is
implementing a title deeds restoration project in collaboration with National
Department of Human Settlements with the aim to eradicate the current backlog in
the transfer of pre-1994 properties into the names of beneficiaries.
The first beneficiary to receive the title deed was a 72 year old widower, Morageng
Seleka during the symbolic handover of title deeds. Seleka lives with his four children
and two grandchildren. He has been staying in Ikageng for over 20 years. “I am happy
that my children have a home,’’ said Seleka
The handing over of houses and title deeds formed part of Thuntsha Lerole,
Accelerated Service Delivery Programme held in Ventersdorp in the JB Marks Local
Municipality by the Acting Premier Maloyi accompanied by, Minister of Cooperative
Governance and Traditional Affairs, Thembisile Nkadimeng, Minister of Unemployment
and Labour, Thulas Nxesi, Minister of Health, Joe Phaahla, MEC’s and Heads of

as it is according to the contract we signed with the people of the North West. Through

services to every community in the province. We do this because we are a caring
